Win a FURminator!

Update: Congratulations to our winner, Jill!!!

Our first pet product giveaway is here! Win a brand new FURminator deLuxe size medium for dogs and cats. This product is available at pet retail stores, veterinarian offices, and online, and retails for $54.99.

Spring is here, which means an increase in shedding in our dogs and cats. This can mean extra cleaning time for you and hairballs for your cats.

Verdict: Does the FURminator work? Yes!! The FURminator uses patented technologies to remove the undercoat and loose hair, and reduces shedding up to 90 percent.  I’ve done a video review of the FURminator with my dog in the video below. As you’ll hear in the video, I first bought a cat sized FURminator for my cat last summer, when he started having frequent hairballs. The hairballs ended immediately when I started grooming him with the FURminator. My regular brush and comb wasn’t doing the job.

I never tried the FURminator on my dog until I received the Medium sized tool today. You’ll see the results in the video! Although I only use it on my dog in the video, the medium size will work on adult cats as well. The package states “For medium dogs and cats.”

  2. I already own a Furminator so I don’t think I need to be entered in the contest, but I am curious. What do you do with the hair you remove. Every time I brush my Golden Retriever I end up with a backyard full of golden hair. Sometimes this thing works too well. I imagine all the birds in my neighborhood has soft, furry, golden nest. Any tips for containing the hair onslaught?

    1. LOL Shannon. When I am outside I do let it go in the breeze. I never imagined that it would end up in a birds nest, but I bet it does!!

I have heard of people who knit with it! They make scarves, sweaters, and purses!

  3. I need one of these!!! I have 2 dogs and am possibly getting another rescue dog soon! Awesome giveaway!!!

  4. Thanks so much for the great review and giveaway. Totally loved the video!

My cat (and dog) really needs this! i just brushed my cat with a normal cat brush last night and still got a ton of fur off of her…I can’t imagine what this would do!!!

    Thanks!!! 🙂

  5. I have a white tabby-point Siamese and a dark carpet. Imagine the horror!! I need a FURminator, have been wanting one forever, but $60 is too much for me. So here’s my 1st entry! 😀

  6. I need this: 2 goldens, 1 lab, grandpup is a lab cross, and hairy kitty! Twitter is hideawayhill. Tweeted before this post.

  7. Hi Leigh,
Great video presentation! Mr. Blue is soooo adorable! Loved when he sniffed toward the camera 🙂
So sad little Amy is gone, she could have used that Furminator.

  8. I have heard such great things about the FURminator and would love to be entered into the contest. I have three cats who could greatly benefit from it 🙂 I’m following you on Twitter @aforsch1 and became a fan of yours on FB!

  9. Thanks for showing that on a short-coated dog! I have a pit bull with the same short, bristly coat as your Catahoula and always veered away from the Furminator because they showed Retrievers and double-coated dogs on the commercials all the time, but never a short-coated one. Thanks!

    1. Liz – yep, I had no idea if it would work on his coat. The video was a true test. So I was glad to see it does. Another tool that has worked on him is a rubber tool that you hold in the palm of your hand and it reminds me of a horse grooming tool. I rub that on him in circles and it lifts out hair too. By the way…I looked at your blog and see that you’re in Akron too. Poor Sophie!!!

  10. I was just saying to my husband last night that we need a Furminator. Our boy Murphy–a rescued pit bill mix, and the best boy ever!–is starting to shed a lot now.

I know the winner of this contest is being chosen randomly, but I also wanted to suggest, if you ever get your hands on another extra Furminator, that you might consider sending it to a K9 unit deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. Just imagine how hot those poor dogs must get. I actually just saw a listing where a dog handler specifically requested a brush or something to help with the working dogs’ shedding. Anyway, just a suggestion. 🙂 Thanks!

  11. love mr. blue! wonder how well this would work on a husky? i have a rake and one of those deshedding tools but i can brush and brush her and she always has fuzzballs! i’m not a tweeter, so i’ll just say hi on here!

    1. Lori, if you visit the FURminator site the second dog they show is either a Husky or a Malamute (I always get those two mixed up). I bet it would work better on a Husky than it does on Mr. Blue, since it could really grab a hold of the fur!!
